7 Little Words Leaves Amazon App Store

Unfortunately we will no longer actively support the 7 Little Words app on the Kindle platform as of December 31, 2021.

Why is this happening?

  • Amazon has informed us the app must be updated to a new version of the Android operating system by the end of 2021 in order to remain in the app store.

  • As a small developer, we don’t have enough players on Amazon Kindle to justify making the changes Amazon has requested, and we are focusing on active support of 7 Little Words on the iOS and Google Play platforms.

What this means for you:

  • The 7 Little Words app should continue to work on your device, and you should still get Daily and Bonus Puzzles. However, we will not be able to fix bugs or things that break in the future.

  • The app will be removed from the Amazon app store after December 31, 2021, so if you delete the app from your device, you will not be able to reinstall it after that date.

  • There will be no additional puzzle packs released in this app after December 31, 2021. If this is the primary reason for your subscription, you may wish to cancel your subscription in the Amazon store.

  • Please consider downloading 7 Little Words from the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play store (for Android).

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move off the Amazon Kindle platform, and thank you again for making 7 Little Words part of your daily life.

Blue Ox Recognizes World Pancreatic Cancer Day on November 21

Pancreatic cancer has a 5-year survival rate of less than 10% in almost every country – the lowest rate of any major cancer.

To support the fight against what the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition calls “the world’s toughest cancer,” the Daily Puzzle section of Blue Ox’s 7 Little Words app is turning purple on November 21, with a special puzzle highlighting 7 well-known people who have battled - or are currently battling - pancreatic cancer.

Learn more about risk factors and symptoms of this deadly disease at http://www.worldpancreaticcancerday.org, where you will find a special message from “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek.

It's a Colorful New 7 Little Words!

As 7 Little Words turns 8 years old (an eternity in the app world, and we are very grateful to you for that), it is time for a major refresh!

It’s still the game you know and love, but we have made the app much more colorful and streamlined. Changes include:

• Every pack now has a theme color and carefully chosen photo;
• All puzzle packs are now on a single page that scrolls in two directions;
• A new “On Sale” section will offer discounted puzzle packs;
• Hints are now available with a single tap;
• Correct answers are now registered automatically – no more Guess button;
• A “Next Puzzle” button allows you to move easily through a puzzle pack.

This new 7 Little Words version has been released for iOS on May 6, 2019, and is currently in development for Android.

It All Fits Together in Our Latest Puzzle App!

Do you like it when everything just fits together smoothly? Then you’ll enjoy the premise of Woven Words!

Woven Words puzzle grids contain a mix of tiles with letters and blank tiles. The puzzle player must find the right letters for the blank tiles so that every line spells a word both down and across. It may sound simple, but some of the puzzles are most definitely not easy! The app contains more than 500 of these unique crossword-ish, sort-of-like-word-Sudoku brain-twisters.

The free app includes 6 basic puzzles so you can get your feet wet – and then 12 more challenging puzzles to test your skills. In addition, over five hundred more puzzles are available for purchase.

Woven Words is the second app that has been developed by a talented team (Alex Bond and Micah Zarnke) outside of Blue Ox, and they worked hard to make Woven Words fully accessible with VoiceOver. We’re excited to publish this little gem of a puzzler!

Download Tiny Little Crosswords, the Little Puzzle With a Big Twist!

Our newest iOS app, Tiny Little Crosswords, debuts today! Unlike most crossword puzzles, it doesn't have a zillion clues to slog through because, well, that's already been done. Instead, each puzzle consists of a handful of words with a single clue. Just drag the letters into the grid to complete the puzzle!

This clever little game contains ten puzzle packs with different difficulty levels for hours of thoughtful, puzzling fun! In a first for Blue Ox Family Games, we are proud to publish an app that was not developed in-house but sprung from the creative minds of Eric Snider, David Arnott, and Aaron Weissblum.

Blue Ox Introduces Ad-Supported Puzzles

Puzzle fans have told us loud and clear that they want more free puzzles, so we're introducing new ways to play in our apps, including 7 Little Words and Monkey Wrench. In addition to the classic, free Daily Puzzle, we are adding a daily Bonus Puzzle that can be played after watching a short video.

A new section, called the Free Puzzle Playground, adds a regularly refreshed batch of puzzles that are also ad-supported.

Blue Ox Says Goodbye to Some Classic Apps

After careful consideration, we have decided to streamline our offerings so we can focus on developing exciting new products. Regrettably, that means that Blue Ox is removing certain apps from different stores, including:

  • 7 Little Words from Windows and Windows Phone
  • 7 Petits Mots from all app stores
  • 7 Palabritas from all app stores
  • 7 Little Words Adventures from all app stores
  • Moxie Classic from Google Play and Amazon
  • Moxie 2 from all app stores
  • Red Herring from Mac, Windows and Windows Phone
  • Super Quadra from iTunes
  • Trivia Hound from all app stores

Of course, you can continue to use these apps if you have previously acquired them. Daily Puzzles in 7 Little Words, 7 Petits Mots, and Red Herring will continue to be available to you as long as the apps continue to work on your device.

While it's never easy to part with such meaningful (and fun!) elements of our legacy, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and invite you to stay tuned for our next adventure!

Blue Ox App Challenge Winners Announced

Blue Ox Technologies, Ltd. is excited to announce the winners of its first-ever app contest for Maine students:

FIRST PRIZE: Ryan Topham, an eighth grade student at Massabesic Middle School in East Waterboro, Maine, took top honors with his flexible, full-featured “Homeworker” app.

SECOND PRIZE: Devin Christianson, a senior at Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor, Maine, nabbed second place with his streamlined “Chord Calculator” app.

“We’re excited to recognize the great work done by Ryan and Devin,” said Blue Ox CEO Christopher York. “Of the almost two dozen students from Caribou to Saco who registered for the contest, these two students created very useful finished products. We hope that all those who participated in the contest will continue to explore the important field of computer science.”

“Homeworker” by Ryan Topham enables students to track homework due dates and make notes about the work to be done. The app also includes a screen with inspirational sayings to give students a little motivational push when they’re stuck. For his organized, well-executed design, Ryan will receive the $1000 first prize.

“Chord Calculator” by Devin Christianson plays basic chords, as requested by the user, to familiarize a student with chord structure. For his streamlined approach to solving a problem for beginner students, Devin will receive the $500 second prize.

Blue Ox Technologies gratefully recognizes the valuable support provided for this contest by the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (http://mmsa.org), Project Login (http://projectlogin.com) and the Association of Computer Technology Educators in Maine (http://www.edline.net/pages/actem).

Play All 10,000+ Puzzles With New 7 Little Words All Access Pass!

Since we released 7 Little Words, many puzzle fans have asked about an option to play all the puzzles without having to buy packs individually.

We’re excited to say that with the release of 7 Little Words 4.0 that will now be possible! Our new All Access Pass option allows you to play every new, monthly pack as soon as it is released — plus all the puzzles (more than 10,000) that are already in the app. This new Pass also includes unlimited, free hints! You may choose from weekly, monthly, and annual All Access Pass options.

Choosing All Access Pass does not affect packs you have already purchased. Those will remain under “My Puzzles” in your app whether you continue with All Access Pass or not. In addition, puzzle fans still have the option of buying individual packs instead of All Access Pass.

Available now on iOS, 7 Little Words 4.0 with All Access Pass will soon be added to Android (Google Play and Amazon) as well.

With the release of All Access Pass, we are adding two new puzzle packs, "Whirlpools" and "Quills" — 100 new puzzles immediately available (at no additional charge) to All Access Passholders. The addition of these packs means that we now have more than 10,000 puzzles in the 7 Little Words app. We're very excited about this major milestone!

Blue Ox Employees Create “I Spy” Game in One-Week Challenge

Challenged to dream up, create, and finish an app in one week, Blue Ox employees decided to make a twist on the classic family road trip game “I Spy.”

The result, Road Trip I Spy (available for free on iOS here), gives you more than 1000 items to find (from “campground” to “person wearing polka dots”) and tracks the points for each person or team playing. The game also has an endless single-player mode that allows everyone in the car to find items cooperatively for as long as they wish.

We didn’t invest our typical amount of time (obviously) into Road Trip I Spy, but we think it is an enjoyable little game for whiling away time in the car — perhaps even replacing “Are we there yet?” with “I found it!”

Blue Ox Sponsors Maine Student App Contest

We are excited to announce an app development competition for Maine students that will take place during the 2016-2017 academic year. As a Maine-based software studio, we hope the contest (with 3 cash prizes for the best apps) will foster interest in technology among young people from around the state and promote their use of STEM skills through creative problem-solving.

The Blue Ox App Challenge asks junior high and high school students to create mobile apps that can help them in school. Registration for the challenge via the Blue Ox Technologies website is now open, and completed apps must be delivered to Blue Ox by March 22, 2017.

“We feel the App Challenge will provide valuable experience for Maine teens,” says Blue Ox CEO Christopher York, “They can choose to work individually or as part of a team in building an iOS or Android app that will address real-world needs.”

Details about the Blue Ox App Challenge may be found on our website here: www.blueoxtech.com/appchallenge2017/ . Support for this contest is being provided by the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (http://mmsa.org), Project Login (http://projectlogin.com) and the Association of Computer Technology Educators in Maine (http://www.edline.net/pages/actem).

7 Little Words Tops 10 Million Downloads

We are very grateful to all of you who have played 7 Little Words – and told your friends! 7 Little Words has just passed 10 million downloads (combining all platforms and languages), and it's only because you have continued to find the game worth playing. We look forward to continuing to provide you with our little quiet little word puzzle for years to come.

7 Little Words 3.0 and a BIG Thank You!!!

Hello Everyone,

This May we're celebrating two important milestones for 7 Little Words. It's the 4th anniversary of our game, and we've reached the 10,000,000 download mark.

Back in 2010 when I first started prototyping 7 Little Words on the living room floor with a pack of index cards and a marker, I had no idea it would grow to be so successful.

Today our game is available as an app on almost every mobile device. You can play it at the table in many Chili's restaurants across the USA. You can play a print version in over 50 newspapers or in our books. There's even an award-winning version for kids.

It takes many people to make all this happen, including 11 employees at Blue Ox plus well over a dozen puzzle writers. I give my heartfelt thanks to the entire 7 Little Words team.

But most of all, it's our fans that make all of this possible. So this month we present a special update to 7 Little Words as a way of thanking you and celebrating together.

We've created an all-new updated look for 7 Little Words. Months of hard work make this the best-looking and easiest-to-read version of our game yet. Also there's a new blue color theme that will make the game even more cheerful. Plus we have a new large print feature that will put an end to the squint.

I'm so excited to release this new update to 7 Little Words. Without a doubt, it's our best ever. Thank you so much for being a fan of 7 Little Words and for being a part of our family!

Sincerely,

Christopher York
CEO
Blue Ox Technologies Ltd.

Exciting Changes in 7 Little Words 3.0

In the four years since we first offered 7 Little Words, we have worked hard to continuously add features that improve game play, make the game more fun, and meet the needs of our fans. We're proud to say that in our soon-to-be-released version 3.0, we feel we have created the best version yet!

Here are some elements you can expect to see in 7 Little Words 3.0:

  • Better legibility: we have adjusted the clue panel to make each line more distinct. In addition, you can now opt for a darker font for clues. Finally, with one tap you can now increase the size of the font for the clues and word chunk letters.
  • More color: We made it easier to change the colors, and we added a new, sky blue background (and we're not done...).

Regular Print

Large Print

We hope that you will find that these new features make the time you spend with 7 Little Words even more enjoyable, and we look forward to rolling out additional exciting features in the future!
